KYBFA is a football academy based in Kisoro, south west Uganda

About Us

KYBFA is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit, FUFA (Federation of Uganda Football Association) registered, football academy for children aged 4 - 16 years located in Kisoro Town, Uganda. It is one of the most isolated areas in Uganda. A single tarmac road connects it to Kampala (450 kms away) and, when permitted, to northern Rwanda and eastern DR Congo.

Our founders, Ali and Benon, met on the football pitch in Kisoro during the CV-19 lockdown. Together they saw the need for children to have access to a safe space to learn new skills, showcase their talents and hopefully provide a platform that leads to better opportunities.

During the CV-19 pandemic that saw schools closed for almost two years, the absence of school life led to idle boys, getting into trouble, some turning to street life and child labour. In response to this boys were encouraged to join our regular coaching sessions. These weekly sessions provided a safe space, and structure in an environment they weren't accustomed too, and they learnt new skills. Many children, and parents, found this of great benefit. 

Now into our fourth year, we have become a significant part of the local community with over 100 regular members on our books. We host our yearly tournament each December, which receives wide recognition and support from the local community. Our roles in nurturing these young talents have allowed us to help many of them access bursaries at nearby schools. In 2024, we have noticed a number of our older members now playing significant role for their secondary school first teams despite being a few years below that age bracket.

There are no membership or attendance fees charged, not least as this would be unaffordable to most. Equipment is provided by the organisers own means and some small donations from friends and family.

Community is Everything
